CFS petition received
The UVic Students’ Society (UVSS) has officially received communication from the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) regarding the petition that was submitted to CFS national membership last October, requesting a referendum on the UVSS’ continued membership in the organization.
UVSS Chairperson Veronica Harrison received a letter from the CFS last week saying that the petition had been received and that it appears to be valid. The letter also requested that the UVSS confirm the validity of the names on a second petition sent to the CFS. The second petition asked that the names not be counted on the original petition.
Directors reports go digital
UVSS board meetings will be getting shorter, starting on Feb. 8 — at least that’s the idea behind a new initiative whereby board members submit their reports electronically.
UVSS Director-at-Large Nadim Adatia put forward the motion for electronic reports at the Feb. 1 board meeting, saying that he hopes submitting reports online will make the board more efficient. Traditionally board members conduct oral reports at the beginning of each board meeting, a process which generally takes half an hour to an hour.
After much discussion at the Feb. 1 meeting, the board voted to pass the motion, meaning that directors will now be required to email their reports in the same day that motions for the agenda are due. The reports will be attached to the agenda so that they can be discussed by board at the meeting.
