Of eligible UVSS members, 18.83 per cent voted, but 100 per cent of you can find the results here.
Executive directors on the board
Kelsey Mech of the EDGE UVic slate was acclaimed as chairperson of the UVSS board by a vote of 75.08 per cent in favour. Matt Hammer took executive director of finance and operations with 1757 votes to Ignite UVic slate candidate Yang You’s 1066. Rachel Barr was acclaimed for executive director of external relations by 76.85 per cent. There were three candidates for executive director of student affairs, but Nadia Hamdon was elected with 1321 votes. That’s 46.24 per cent of votes cast for this position; independent candidate Deryck Harry won 576 votes, and Ignite UVic’s Bowen Macy took 960. The executive director of events will be Ariel Mishkin with 1573 votes. Her opponent, Sam Hagen of Ignite UVic, had 44.88 per cent of the vote. So it’s an EDGE UVic sweep of executive positions, with all five elected candidates coming from that slate.
Referenda
Students voted 69.34 per cent in favour of a 50-cent fee increase for full-time students to go toward the UVic Food Bank. The referendum to amend the UVSS Constituency Group Fund to include the Native Students’ Union passed by 62.59 per cent, but the follow-up question on increasing fees by $2.50 per full time student per semester failed with only 36.57 per cent in favour. This appears to mean that without an increase in funding per student, the fund will now be divided among more groups, though Megan Quigley, proponent of the referenda and current executive director of student affairs, was not available to confirm this.
Directors-at-large
There were 12 candidates vying for the 11 director-at-large spots, and Taylor Verrall of Ignite UVic fell only a few votes short of getting elected. Verrall finished two votes behind Kieran Wilson, also of Ignite UVic, who is elected by 1279 votes. The other Ignite UVic members elected were Kayleigh Erickson and Simarjit Singh. All eight EDGE UVic slate candidates for director-at-large were elected. They are Rajan Dhaliwal, Nick Tang, Negin Saadati, Eric Cameron, Scott Robertson, Miriam Moore, Lisa-Jane Hayfron and Marina Holding.
