With a call to order at 6:07 p.m. and an adjournment at 7:04 p.m., the UVSS board meeting on Monday, June 20, sparked little discussion but bagged the record for quickest board meeting so far this term. So there’s that.
UPDATES
Most of the meeting was taken up by quick reports and committee appointments. Kevin Tupper, UVSS director of finance and operations, and Erin Ewart, executive director, both updated members on UVSS Strategic Plan implementation, and said that the final plan should be made public in a few weeks.
After the update, Tupper explained that despite the influx of undergraduate students this semester (and consequently more fees paid to the UVSS), this will be the worst financial year-over-year performance for the UVSS since 2001, with an accumulated deficit of approximately $201 208. This is due in part to legal fees accrued by the society a couple of years ago.
Following an update on the Native Students’ Union, Firekeeper Blake Desjarlais announced that it was his final meeting in the position before his term finishes on July 1, and bid the board well.
As anyone that has been in the SUB recently should know, SUB Renovations are well underway for the summer, with the new International Grill set to open nearly on schedule June 29 and Health Food Bar to go undercover June 27.
ANNUAL SURVEY DEBRIEF
Did you fill out the 2016 UVSS Annual Survey? Neither did I, but apparently 331 of you did, and the results were fairly interesting.
Alicia Armstrong, director-at-large, prepared a slideshow complete with charts showing answers to questions such as “How do you wish to be contacted about UVSS matters?” (58.9 per cent said Facebook) and rating students’ response to statements like “The UVSS listens to me.” (38.34 per cent disagree.)
Again, these results and more should be released along with the final Strategic Plan.
All further motions and recommendations were swiftly passed, and after a very brief session in camera, the meeting was adjourned.
The next UVSS board meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 11 at 6 p.m. in the SUB Upper Lounge.
