Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois has a lot on his mind these days — among other things, he is awaiting sentencing from a Quebec judge after being found guilty of contempt of court. But in October, before the judge made his ruling, the Martlet heard him and one other leader of Quebec’s student protest movement, in Victoria as part of their cross-country “Maple Tour,” talk about their experiences in the “Maple Spring” student strike. We present to you the complete speeches from Cloé Zawadzki-Turcotte and Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, formerly of Quebec student group CLASSE, which were delivered at UVic on Oct. 4. Hear how Quebec student unions’ structure made sure the strike was a success, and why Nadeau-Dubois doesn’t think social media convinces students to go on strike.
