Do you have a way with words? Submit your fiction or creative nonfiction story to the Martlet’s summer writing contest!
This year, the contest has a new twist – articles must adhere to a theme. We are requesting that submissions include some discussion or elements related to racism, as part of our ongoing efforts to be actively anti-racist.
Just a few quick rules:
- Stories must be unpublished, original works of either fiction or creative non-fiction and within 1000 – 2000 words.
- All submissions must be submitted on or before July 27 at 11:59 PST to edit@martlet.ca with “CONTEST” in the subject line, and either “FICTION” or “NONFICTION.”
- This contest is open to UVic students only, and only one story is permitted per entrant. Writers who graduate in June 2020 will be considered for entry, but preference will be given to current students.
Each submission will be thoroughly reviewed by a panel of judges, and the winner will receive a centrefold spread of their work in our August issue along with $50. Two runners-up will be published online, on the Martlet’s website.
We look forward to reading your pieces — thanks to all contestants for your hard work, and good luck!
