Art Battle 315
Whoa, “art battle”?! Sounds awfully combative. Well, yes and no. Art Battle is live competitive painting, with artists creating the best work they can in 20 minutes! The medium? Acrylic paint. And the tools? Brushes, palette knives, and non-mechanical implements. The audience votes for the winner, then bids to take the winner’s painting home with them! How fun and exciting!

Campus Community Garden Harvest Party
The Campus Community Garden invites one and all to their fourth annual Fall Harvest Party. Art-making, homegrown food, and musical performances by local talent round out what’s sure to be a fun, heartwarming way to ring in the harvest. 3 p.m. marks the start of the work party, while 5 p.m. brings the potluck dinner proper. Open mic performances and music start at 5:30 p.m.

RUDEFEST 2015
As if Victoria Ska Fest wasn’t enough, now you have another ska and reggae festival to look forward to. This event, hosted by the Victoria BC Ska Society at the Victoria Event Centre, is stacked with local Victoria and Vancouver talent, including The Leg Up Program, Sweetleaf, Morning Mayhem, and Brass Action.

Refugee Fundraiser: Patrick Boyle & the Capital City Syncopators
Patrick Boyle, a jazz professor at UVic, joins Victoria’s “most exciting dance band” for a night of prohibition-era jazz and country swing — with a “distinct modern edge.” Did you know I used to play in a jazz band? I played the bari sax. I miss those days; maybe I’ll attend, and maybe I’ll see you there.

Spotlight on Alumni: LOON
LOON is the love story of a lonely janitor “plagued by isolation” who decides plucking the moon from the sky will solve his problems. Something tells me that probably won’t help. The play is produced by WONDERHEADS, a multi-award winning physical theatre company that specializes in mask performance, so if you’re looking for something a little more out there, I think it’s a safe bet.
