drug overdose

UVic the first university in BC to introduce a ‘Good Samaritan’ drug policy

"We would really like to see the university be proactive in communicating this policy change,” said Galway. “If it’s not communicated, then the policy might as well not exist.”

Members of the UVic community should all learn to use naloxone

According to the most recent statistics published by the provincial government, from July 2024, deaths due to overdose are estimated to be 6.2 per day.

Residence staff began requesting naloxone training in 2022. It took the death of a student for UVic to listen

CLs at UVic may receive naloxone training following tragic death of Sidney McIntyre-Starko, but CLs have been asking for training since 2022.
